Here’s a painted stone from a few years ago with one of my all time favourite birds - a nightjar.

When this "AI" bubble pops, the men pretending they weren't pushing the hype, like "critics" whose position is "AGI is real but LLMs aren't the way," who were in eugenicist and "AI existential risk"🙄 circles, will get specials discussing what they saw coming, when its the women who told you so.

I really liked an anthropological take but it was written for a general audience and the point seemed to be there are many (caring) ways to parent. It wasn't a how-to book either.

But I still worry that new parents are just as likely fall into the bullshit echo chamber as they are to find a calmer, more supportive community (who isn't selling something.)

At least now there is a wider community of autistic people writing books about parenting kids (autistic or allistic.)

For me, w/ autistic kids, all of the books were crap. Because by definition my kids weren't traveling on that developmental trajectory & what works for them is just different.

Jacking anxiety is bad for parents and bad for kids. [Bad for everyone, but especially kids who are forming their sense of themselves, others, and the world.]

Modern parents are the perfect prey for all sorts of bullshit and it's just bc they are nervous about taking care of their kids. My biggest advice? Find a friend of loved one who raised a kid before & talk to them. If they aren't telling you to relax and it will be okay time to find someone else.

Oh, and these our foundations for ... research. So it truly is fucking with our ability to safeguard as best we can our ability to generate knowledge.
