For Day 9 of #25DaysOfFishmas, we're heading back to Australia to meet perhaps the most evolutionarily isolated species on our list. This is Lepidogalaxias salamandroides, the salamanderfish, which is not only the only member of its family, nor order, but is the only member of its *superorder*!

Walking catfish are invasive in Florida & sometimes they're fish out of water. But they don't mind.

In fact, @noahwithfish.bsky.social authored a paper documenting their movements on land.

Some walking catfish were observed walking across parking lots to eat worms in puddles!

Macrostemum zebratum is known as the Zebra Caddis, because of the prominently striped patterns on the adult wings.

The larvae construct houses of tiny stones supporting fine silk nets attached to rocks in running water. They are abundant in the St Lawrence River.
