If no players take any other discretionary actions, how does the rest of combat resolve?

A) Leona dies, Teemo maintains control.

B) Leona gets a buff and lives as a 5[M] with 4 damage. Teemo maintains control.

C) Leona dies, Teemo conquers.

D) Leona takes no damage because stun. Leona conquers.

Question for Today!

Turn Player moves their Leona, Determined into Trifarian War Camp occupied by Opponent's Teemo, Strategist with a hidden card.

When Strategist trigger resolves, 4 Hidden cards are flipped. At the earliest available opportunity, OP plays their Hidden Fight or Flight on Leona.

The market was smaller - TCGs hadn't hit wide acceptance or popularity with adults yet, they were still nerdy or for kids. Too many fish in a small pond.

But a lot of them died out because their companies mismanaged them or went bankrupt.

DBZ was a great game and had thay happen not once but twice

EDH didn't expand outside of the judge circles until much later. For the many IP-based TCGs, tying decks to characters was just made good sense and still does.

Forgettable is inaccurate. You can champion EDH, but many of those games died for reasons having nothing to do with their game play.

Sadly that's the case everywhere but China, but places should be getting more product I think reasonably soon.

Locally, a lot of our players have many decks built so if a new player interested shows up we can loan them a deck to try out.

Oh, TCGs doing this predates EDH. In the early 00s the success of Pokémon and Yugioh led to a large wave of anime TCGs. DBZ and Fullmetal Alchemist both had leader characters. Force of Will in 2012 not only has a leader character but also a separately resource deck.

It isn't prefect (yet), but it is a fantastic game I'm so many ways. It brings a freshness to old concepts in a way that's easy to get into yet still so deep and strategic.

I need a bigger quiver just for Riftbound decks, let alone any other game 😅

Where did you get those counters and markers?

If you have a LGS that does competitive pricing versus online, you might be able to work them down a little.

Otherwise, prices probably won't move much until after Christmas.

Remember that when you throw down a Thousand-Tail Watcher, their Wielder of Water is still 2[M] so your trigger gets snapshotted at -1[M]. If you then run your 2[M] Pouty Poro into it, your poro will get extra pouty when the Wielder goes up to 3[M] on defense.

When carde.io completely breaks and insists on not pairing a player in your @riftbound.riotgames.com Skirmish so you have to manually make pairings and then manually make each match in the software.

This is just a reminder that once you pass priority for Teemo, Strategist to reveal cards, it is too late to react to save your unit if it flips lethal damage.

You have to use your Reactions first (but not Actions!)

With Deathknell a major subject of v1.2 of the CR, a thought:

If your Tasty Faefolk would die in combat resolution, its trigger is put on the Chain *before* control of the battlefield changes, so you can use your hidden Zhonya's Hourglass as a reaction to it.

I think people miss it because the game is new (and they haven't even learned Action vs Reaction yet), but I don't think that's a good cause to change the rules versus asking people play better. Keeping track of things like triggers at all points in the game over the tournament is a skill, IMO.

Based on what Dave himself has said in the Riftbound Community Discord, neither of those things is happening.

A beginning phase trigger on turn 5 is easy to miss when there's a lot going on in the game. On turn 1, it's literally supposed to be your first action. Hard to have a reason to miss those.

When the game launched in English two months ago, it was "for sure" that Kai'sa and Yi were far-and-away the "best" two decks, with Kai'sa firmly on top.

Kai'sa was 3rd for Day Two conversion in this tournament, and put 0 copies in the top 4. Annie's surge is weeks old.

Stale? Not hardly.

It is highly unlikely to be allowed, the new policy (which was in effect for Houston) mirrors MTG and other TCGs - they have until a trigger creates a visible change in the game to acknowledge it. Points are a visible change, so The Arena's Greatest needs to be acknowledged immediately.

But it *will* end!

Each player looks at the top 5 cards of their Main Deck, banishes one of them, then recycles the rest. Starting with the next player, each player plays those cards, ignoring Energy costs. (They must still pay Power costs.)
