We house ruled it so the player got a new character at level 1 and was stuck in one of the vaults with whatever loot was there. We rescued him, but died anyway. Ugh.

I will always make a house rule to overcome player elimination in board games because fuck that noise. I'm looking at you, Zombicide, who made 2nd edition somehow worse than 1st edition. 1980s board games called, they want your rules back.
