⏭️Faye's Art Training Arc

This may have been the exact moment drawing really clicked for me. After pulling this out of thin air, I started to really believe I could create.

I fully intend to learn and hone some artistic skills here on this account, however infrequently :)

photo of my 3ds, on which i'm playing fire emblem awakening. sumia and robin are having a support conversation, in which sumia says "I don't need to be a princess! I don't need anything else if i have you!"

it's been WAY too long since i sat down to draw (life has been busy) but i'm really keen to finish the practice piece i've been working on..

i might just lock in and silently finish it. no more "here's the tiny amount of progress i made today!" posts :((

three days in a row of learning to draw armour hasn't left me like "grrr i'll never draw armour again" (especially since i haven't started line art lol) but i've definitely thrown myself into the deep end. the progress feels AMAZING though..

Day Eight 🤍

I only had an hour or so to draw tonight since I'm back to work first thing in the morning. Still, I'm happy with the elbow armour I've cobbled together 🥰

Day Six and Day Seven 💕

I didn't get back to drawing last night, so here's the progress I left off on (Day Six) and what I've done tonight (Day Seven)
(with the chest layer turned off)

These physically small additions took a deceptive amount of time and effort, I feel like I've learned a lot :P

ive spent three hours tonight drawing and redrawing the armour, which has been both fun and informative but makes for a very boring progress post lol

im gonna get back to it in a bit and maybe do the other shoulder piece to make it a little more interesting :)

the fact that she's recognisable means i'm clearly doing something right.. :o

Day Five 💗

I've started a multi-day practise project, where I'll be slowly working towards a complete Sumia portrait

There's plenty of drawing and redrawing to do yet, but I'm determined to see this VERY rough sketch turn into a presentable beginner piece. Wish me luck~

i feel bad posting anything in progress because it'll look different like 30 seconds after i hit send

face is a massive wip dont look

drawing over this felt like 9/11

my mind kept flipping back and forth between wanting to try more candid hair, maybe practise clothes, or finally leap into line art. idk i'm just so excited to jump back into drawing once i'm back from work :)))

genuinely found it hard to get to sleep last night because of how much i wanted to keep drawing asdfjl

i mostly use the charcoal pencil with some tweaks to the pressure it requires iirc

Tomorrow I'd either like to try focusing on hair again, or maybe I'll jump into starting a study piece where I redraw a full body render. Just to have a full benchmark of where these past few days of practise have left me. It'll be nice to look back on :)

Unsure if the width of the hair was the result of me focusing on it so much and wanting a better practise subject, or a subconscious issue I'll have to pay attention to next time

Day Four ♥️

Messed around with drawing hair, and made *some* progress, but not as much as I would have liked

I used M as a reference at first but toyed with the length / presentation as to make for better practise. I definitely want to try this again soon

Day Three ♥️

Practised today by drawing a body with no reference, aiming for a pose that emphasised depth. For a first attempt I think I've done a fine job :)

I'll definitely want to try something like this again soon, maybe improving it can be the focus of my next session

this feels pretty solid too :)

im not gonna pretend this was easy or that the result is particularly good, but for a 30 minute first attempt this hand seems really solid

(no reference other than my own hands lol)

Day Two💚

Kinda ended up with a sketch sheet today, concluding with a very scrunkly looking m!Byleth... he's cute

I'm super happy with how he turned out considering the "how to draw faces" tutorial I had open was about 3/4 angle portraits, so all I could take was general tips

Tomorrow I'd really like to try drawing a front facing bust to try honing specific skills, but I'm unsure if I'll draw Sumia again. Character suggestions welcome lol

Learned:
- The eraser tool is my friend
- Less is more, the absence of a brush stroke sometimes elevates whatever you're trying to detail
- I seriously, seriously enjoy doing this :)

Future focus:
- Faces (the unassuming one above took longer than anything else)
- Clothes

Day One❤️

Used a reference to get comfortable sketching in Krita, and took the chance to try drawing Sumiia's hair.
Marking as sensitive since I didn't draw clothes so she looks like a Barbie doll
