I’m looking forward to rewatching the episode with my dad, getting to experience it with him, and chatting about it afterwards. There’s no higher praise I can offer for and this show.

This week’s episode of Academy was the first truly great episodes of the series up there with the other greats of Trek. It’s a perfect coda to another era of Trek that honors what came before and doesn’t undercut it. An impressive tightrope act.

We finally got a chance to watch Starfleet Academy together last week and after plowing through the first two episodes he said, “I really liked it!” which is amazing praise from a one of the most legendary stoics of our time.

A #startrek thread: When my father was 19 Star Trek premiered. He’s still around and he’s been watching Trek for 60 years now. He started me on the same path 43 years ago. Every iteration of Trek we’ve watched together in a narrative through line of our time together.

Someone reaches out to make amends for something of no consequence that happened decades ago.
Is this something I think about on a regular basis. Yes. Yes it is.
