In the flurry of Addams Family movies and shows, I wonder how many people remember the New Yorker cartoons that started it all. Charles Addams helped me feel normal as a kid, I idolized him as an aspiring cartoonist, drove to NYC just to have a drink with him, and still love flipping through these.

The first serious look at comic books I believe (though there were some around the funnies). And definitely something I lost myself in as a kid. Around this same time (early 70s) my dad got me this and a bunch of the other first-gen books on the funnies. They were a huge influence.

RIP Jules Feiffer, cartoonist and author whose body of work spans decades and is consistently amazing.
I swapped some emails with him a few years back, asked if he'd inscribe my childhood copy of The Great Comic Book Heroes (the first serious book about comics) and this is what I got back.

RIP David Lynch. Eraserhead was a perennial midnight show at the movie theater where I worked in high school, I watched it a million times and it made such an impact. Plus all the other stuff.
