Master Study, done in Procreate, of the famous Madame X by John Singer Sargent. In this study I focused on how Sargent depicted the colors in this piece, but avoiding blacks. The darkness in this piece is achieved by high saturated warm and cool tones that give off the illusion of darkness. Even the dress is not black but dark saturated reds and blues. Her skin is stark pale compared to her dark dress. She has auburn hair with a small tiara shaped in a crescent moon. Her arms draped down her side. Her right arm twists to show her pale forearm with her fingers delicately resting on the table beside her. In her right hand we can see she's holding her gloves that match her dress, bringing attention to the bright wedding ring on her finger.
