I didn't think I'd ever see a more pathetic attempt to justify taking Saudi blood money than Hendos.

Hope you'll be heading back there soon.

Think that means you've been blocked. Understandable.

You gotta listen to the In Our Time episode on 'Hybrids'. It'll open your eyes.

Key Steve Jones line: "we used to think they couldn't breed with each other but it turns out they just don't fancy each other much"

I've listened to them man. My friends are all really big into him these days. Wavelength. Inarticulate Speech. Rare live sets. Every day there's Van in the chat and I just don't get it.

I'm trying to say he sucks cus his music is rubbish and boring.

I can separate politics and art - I still love Melvins for one.

Dan is old news these days tbh. Everyone is into them.

The new deeply uncool thing that dads are getting into is Van Morrison. I hate it.

I did have to click through just to make sure this wasn't Steve addressing his relationship to Jeffrey Epstein. It's not.

Polly Toynbee is in her late 70s. She seems deeply and out of touch, and has done for quite a long time. Isn't it time you handed this column space over to someone with something more interesting and relevant to say?

Surely that's what the private sector offers pensions and insurance for?

Is Comrade Reeves talking about nationalising a broad swathe of the financial sector? I'm here for it.

the Palestinian people.

Lol of course not. It's actually the perfect time to take some (smug and cringingly unfunny) shots at the Left for being Hamas loving simpletons .

I really detest that man and the Guardian can piss off with it's begging emails while it still employs him.

Barney Ronay piece in today's Guardian supporting the upcoming UEFA ban on Israel.

Now Barney's been quite a big Israel defender over the years (or at least a fierce critic of its critics) so you might think it was a perfect moment for some self-reflection or expressions of sympathy with...

It will remain difficult and expensive even with ID cards. But every step you take to centralising identity will make it simpler to build a more complete, detailed picture of the average citizen.

As many have pointed out in replies, if that weren't true then what would even be the point?

As someone with a level of passing professional familiarity, the answer (which is pretty obvious to anyone thinking about it): all of that tracking is carried out by a huge array of different bodies, private and public. Joining up the data to one Big Brother view is basically impossible right now.

How can you be so insulated, so myopic that you look at everything happening in the world today, the alarming disintegration of civil rights and democratic norms, and be like 'nah, couldn't happen here'.

(Answer: you could be a better journalist)

Incredible Brit Journo one-two in this thread.

"People who disagree with me are fixated on archaic principles of British exceptionalism"

Also

"We don't need to worry about the obviously huge risk to civil liberties, this is Britain, we have our trusty democratic process to oversee it"

There are as many definitions of left as there are posters on here. But within the context of the speech we're talking about 'the left' that Starmer refers to - the traitorous, hard left who believe in completely open borders - that's not Tonty or even Gordon is it? Be real here.

1. Read what I wrote again. I'm not saying that. You *do* have to be a racist to believe in the conspiracy theory that there are no existing controls on immigration.

2. πŸ™„

He means it to be understood by racists that he operates within their fantasy reality, within which there are literally no controls on immigration. That the tabloid 'open door Britain' is real, and conveniently is the fault of 'the left' (who haven't been in power for nearly 50 years).

The fault line between the 'court' and 'country' factions (i.e. affluent and posh free marketeers vs. nostalgic Little Englanders) was always there but the former were the dominant partner.

Brexit flipped that on its head and now they can't resolve the inherent ideological conflict between them.
