That’s not to say that insightful/intelligent writing/criticism doesn’t exist outside of traditional publications, but they have convinced the industry, even those major publications, that written criticism is not worth paying for. That it should only be a hobby or PR adjacent.

His latest novel, Leopold, tells the captivating fictionalised story of Leopold Mozart: the vertigo of being the father of a genius.

He was responsible for creating the only Creative Writing bachelor’s degree in a Brazilian university, as well as the only research tracks in Creative Writing at the master’s and PhD levels, which allow candidates to submit fictional works as their theses.

The Brazilian writer Luiz Antonio de Assis Brasil has recently retired from the Pontifical Catholic University of Rio Grande do Sul, in southern Brazil. Author of more than 20 novels, including prize-winning historical fiction, he has led the country’s most traditional creative writing workshop.
