Hmm... I never ran into an issue with insistence of wanting the app on the phone. One of the reasons I do like Threads is that it's Fediverse-aware - and you can turn on Fediverse Sharing in settings under Account, and then you could be found from Mastodon as @YourThreadsName@threads.net
