Brownmiller's book was one of the most important that I ever read. I learned that rape was political. As I read each chapter, I wasn't very convinced. Then she analyzed comic books, which were much more explicit about the uses of violence, and I got it.

If I remember correctly, Timothy Snyder told a similar story. Crimea is not Russian.
