#neuroskyence people (maybe vision people in particular): how do you think information is "read out" from the visual system? Do downstream areas like PFC get to query anything from V1 to IT? Or just later areas? How plastic are these readouts? Etc. IMO this is always under constrained in modeling.

🧠✨How do we rebuild our memories? In our new study, we show that hippocampal ripples kickstart a coordinated expansion of cortical activity that helps reconstruct past experiences.

We recorded iEEG from patients during memory retrieval... and found something really cool 👇(thread)

New R package almost birthed - SemanticDistance - computes two semantic distance metrics (experiential and embedding) for any rolling chunk size (ngram-to-ngram, word-to-word, turn-to-turn, ngram-to-word). You give it your language sample. It does the rest, including lemmatize and stopword omit

Interesting preprint shows aphantasia is associated with a 20% increase in time it takes to read text. Suggests aphantasic students would benefit from similar reasonable adjustments in exam settings (e.g., extra time) as provided to other neurodevelopmental populations.
