I wonder how much of this is situational. If a progressive is running in a safe democratic region, they can go more left with their policies. Ditto conservatives in safe republican regions.

Honestly, despite last year’s success, I thought the team last year seemed further from contention. Edvinsson has been a revelation. Kasper, Berggren, and Johansson are getting NHL development. The cap situation is better next summer and the one following that.

The other thing is I just don’t think the management had the same expectations for this team that the fans did. At his year end last season, Yzerman said the team overachieved and has downplayed making the playoffs as a goal this year.

Fully agree. Fans have a hard time when rebuilds aren’t linear.
