Bases aren’t done yet, and I honestly still don’t know that I love this colour scheme - but the spearhead has begun

I don’t usually toot my own horn, but I feel like the lighting on this one has turned out really nice.

Many test minis later, I think I am pretty much at a workable colour and base scheme for my helsmiths.

The actual models have quite a few more little details and extra parts, so it’s still daunting to get started - but the time is nigh.

Excuse the rough brushwork, just been slopping some paint around on my test pieces to try and work out how I’m going to paint these helsmiths. Not happy with anything here so far, but there are definitely bits and pieces I want to keep refining.

These are the photos and description I went with in the end. I don’t have a decent camera or lighting setup, and that’s something I’d really like to improve for next year!

That’s a line drawn under the entry, no more can be done. I hope you all got your entries done and submitted in time!

_The Oak in Chains is a 1500 point legal army list combining a cavalry heavy Nighthaunt army with the Lost-Song Spirit Sylvaneth regiment of renown, and was originally intended to be submitted to the Solo Entrant category._

Now the Oak in Chains marches in the wake of the Huntmaster's forces. As dark riders drive their grim hunting hounds forward in search of prey, the scraps they discard are swallowed by the wailing shadows in the trees.

When the Huntmaster's banshees alerted him to the presence of the Oaken Glade, he gleefully diverted his wild hunt through the heart of the forest, cackling as his Chainghasts smashed the bindings holding the maddened sylvaneth only to reforge them anew with forbidden death magic.

In an unprecedented alliance, the Sigmarite enclaves and Darkoath forest tribes worked great magic, and bound the spiteful forest revenants in sorcerous chains, deep in the heart of the woods.

But the will of Nagash is not so easily chained.

No longer able to hear the spirit's song, the Sylvaneth of the Oaken Glade were driven to cruelty and madness, turning their forest - upon which nearby mortals relied for game and forage - into a nightmare even the hardiest hunter did not dare enter.

Balancing out the three regiments like this gives me 1980 points and three rounded phases of painting - so I think approaching this in two phases makes sense. Aim for the original 1500, then if time/budget allows, expand to 2k with a list shuffle.

Anyone got any other suggestions? I want to avoid riderless dragons like Krondys etc

A second Tornus/Azyros and more stormdrakes gets us to a cleaner round number at 1940, but we’re starting to end up with a LOT of duplicate units in the army which I’m not a fan of.

Assuming I completed that monumental task, the expansion would PROBABLY be Ionia and more prosecutors - but unfortunately that brings us to 2010 points, which is unpleasant and ideally I’d find something else.

We can get to a nice clean 1480 points with four dragons, nine prosecutors, yndrasta, and a knight-azyros.

I don’t want this to be a dragon army, so hopefully this will balance the aesthetic of the force nicely enough to showcase the story I want to tell.

Okay, with the deadline for AOP being midnight tonight, what better time to start planning next years!

Current plan: ruination chamber, aerial strike force, angels and dragons.

I love the idea of broken, living weapons with an angelic facade, descending from the sky in fire and fury.

The Ogroids remain my favourite model in the S2D range, which is saying a lot for an army that takes up more than a few spots in my top ten AOS models…

Making small amounts of progress on my ongoing Orruk army throughout Orktober too. Started a small test model for the Goroan Scion ROR in my Ironjaw scheme, and intentionally choosing a very simple palette is coming back to bite me on a model without bright green skin…

Hold on let me check with the judges….yes, it’s unanimous, that’s three beautiful units and well over the minimum required for entry! I love it, chase down those pesky flesh eaters!

I keep seeing new names I missed and the cast is wild but also the art?!? It looks unreasonably beautiful. Congratulations, know you and Ben worked really hard on this one, and it shows.

I loved this game idea when Dan first pitched it to me, but my jaw is STILL on the floor about how kickass it IS. Look at the CAST! And the ART! And the MUSIC!

Wishlist pls.
