Peter could obviously come back for select stories, but having a contrast between domesticated Petey and big city Ben Reilly could have worked out well and probably satisfied more people long term.

To be clear, this isn't my PREFERRED outcome for spider-man, but this is better than what we have.

Marvel clearly shows that they have no interest in maturing Peter, so why not have the freeswinging Reilly doing the superheroics while having a happily retired Peter living a suburban life?

I believe this was part of the reason Takahashi did not want cash prizes in YGO tournaments. He believed that without money incentives adults would leave the lane open for kids more, least that was my understanding of it.
