But there is opportunity for positive change. With better voting methods like STAR Voting, Approval Voting, and Ranked Robin, voters can show how they feel about all of the candidates, and elect a consensus winner, providing better representation. ⬇️ 🧵

Then, in the general election, 3rd party candidates are written off as non-viable spoilers. To prevent losing the election due to the spoiler effect, political leaders do everything in their power to gate-keep the process, and we get elections driven by well connected insiders rather than voters.⬇️ 🧵

Additionally, party leaders are incentivized to pre-pick a winner in back-room deals and try to get voters to put their weight behind that candidate. And since voters can only mark one name down, they can't even show back-up support. ⬇️ 🧵

This is because voters in the primary are encouraged to vote for someone they think can win in November, regardless of how they really feel. For this reason, voters tend to lean towards candidates whose names they recognize or who are in the news a lot. ⬇️ 🧵

The choose-one-only voting method (that we currently use for most U.S. elections) favors candidates who are deemed "electable" by measures such as wealth, name recognition, incumbency, and connections. ⬇️ 🧵

It's not our place to weigh in on the Epstein files controversy, but one thing is clear: Americans all across the political spectrum want more transparency in government, and elected officials who are accountable to them. Election reform is a key part of achieving this. ⬇️ 🧵
