it took all morning for me to realize the worst part: mf just pitched Gigli (2003)

Max Landis isn’t pitching a movie; he’s pitching grievance culture. He’s pitching “look what woke took from us.”
Development execs stopped inviting him to jingle keys across the pitch table from him so now he’s jingling keys at right-wing reactionaries who complain about disney movies.

What sucks most is he’s sharing the pitch (and trying to make himself go viral) by framing this pitch as the sort of thing modern culture cannot accept, that he’d get castigated for making it. But twenty-five years ago this movie would get castigated *and* mocked into oblivion.

the entire pitch walks you up to a twist, but the twist is the real premise and story engine of the movie; he doesn’t explain how he’ll deliver on that or how the story will unfold. He labors over tone management, but the proposed movie is its own tonal tightrope, one he falls off in his own video.

I unfortunately watched the entire Max Landis Autism Movie pitch, but it exemplifies that pitching and writing are two vastly different skills. I was actually wondering “huh where’s this going?” until the “where” turned out to be the premise for a MADtv sketch.
