Flash flood warning was just issued for Bronx/Queens.

Nearly all parts of the five boroughs will be at an extreme risk for flooding the rest of the afternoon and evening.

Get your friends and neighbors out of their basement apartments if flooding is happening.

if you live in a Democratic district / state, you might think on most issues "it's not worth me calling my Senator, they agree with me"

this might be an exception for you ⬇️

DOE climate report response form We are collecting names to assemble a writing team to respond to the DOE climate working group report. If you'd like to contribute, enter your info below. At this point, there is no guarantee what we'll do (if anything), but we want to keep our options open by collecting names. If you have any further questions, feel free to email me. We are primarily looking for Ph.D. scientists at universities or government labs in appropriate fields. I realize that this will exclude some qualified people and I apologize, but we felt this was necessary for a variety of reasons.

🚨 If you're interested in working on a coordinated response to the DOE climate report, please enter your info on this google form 🚨

Please RT this so as many people see it as possible.

this post brought to you by the fact that there is no way for me to edit my email alerts from any Wiley-managed journal, and every time I write to them about this, they send me a link to an unrelated help page, mark "case completed", and ask me to rate their customer service

of all the things about academia it blows my mind that we pay billions of dollars to companies like Wiley to provide absolutely garbage services that also make science inaccessible

New paper out on the dangers of using patterns across spatial climate gradients to predict what will happen with changing climate. That includes species distribution modeling. Space-for-time substitution can be misleading in sign, not just the magnitude of effects.

the problem with "have foundations fund science" is that the federal government was willing to fund anyone. foundations fund a VERY few people at a very high level for a very long time.

not one foundation in my field had a major open call for research in 2025. zero new grantees.

One thing very few people know, even in the climate-health research space, is that - in addition to NIH / NSF / NASA / EPA blocking any new research on climate change and health - all the philanthropies have decided to take NGO-shaped roles rather than fund research, and so they aren't stepping in.
