+ the data that got exposed was absurdly personal too - everything from every single address a person had ever had, to all their login data, to government ID numbers so important the government had to go regenerate a bunch; heaps of complete, detailed medical histories. just top of the iceberg here

the worst part is it was pretty wide-reaching - those two examples covered about 10m people each, and in a country with a pop. of 27m even with very little crossover that's a pretty significant number that got hit (cont)

it actually did happen in Australia two years ago. several times in the same year! turns out several very large businesses (our second biggest telco, one of our biggest health insurance providers, etc) had garbage infosec. some people got hit 3+ times over and literally have never recovered
