Parlwr Mawr
Iโve posted before about the sad demise of Parlwr Mawr.
facebook.com/share/p/1BsaXAโฆ
It was a building with medieval origins on Chapel Street and home to John Williams, who was Archbishop of York in the 17th century. Sadly, it was demolished in the 1950s.
Where the dish originally comes from. Italy have been lying to us.
07.08.2025 22:23 โ ๐ 1 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 1 ๐ 0Years ago, I was lucky enough to see the stunning Mappa Mundi in Hereford Cathedral - a marvellous medieval treasure! But it does highlight the problem with place names. There have been many versions of 'Conwy' over the centuries. Here, Conwy looks like Cumweb! Old photos so not the best.
07.08.2025 20:53 โ ๐ 0 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 1 ๐ 0Couldnโt sleep, so I ended up going through some headstone photos from St Maryโs Churchyard in Conwy.
Found the grave of John Thomas, his wife Jane, and their son Richard. I also came across their death notices in the local papers.
Janeโs notice says she died on 26 Feb, but the headstone says 27th.
Me and the history bestie are in the latest issue of The Historian from the Historical Association โค๏ธ๐ฐ

Had a fabulous time!
Well done to all the volunteers in Conwy in Bloom. The town looked stunning!
I've just absolutely had mind blown by The Wallace Collection. This place is phenomenal!!!

Cliffordโs Tower is the surviving keep of York Castle. The first castle was built by William the Conqueror in the 1060s. The current stone structure dates from the 13th century, built under the reign of Henry III.
Finally got to visit Lost Souls Pizza and it was epic! Happy Days!

Founded in the 12th century by Bishop Henry de Blois, brother of King Stephen, the palace was built to house the Bishops of Winchester during their visits to London on royal and administrative business.
What you see today is part of the Great Hall.
Apparently it's Yorkshire Day so...
Happy Yorkshire Day!

Llangelynin Old Church.
Hidden in the hills above Henryd, lies one of my favourite churches. Parts of the present church are thought to date back to the 12th century with later additions and alterations.
The photos were taken in the 40s/50s by RCAHMW.
Lithographs are from 1889.
They were created by artist Linda Norris in collaboration with Rachel Phillips. The windows blend traditional techniques with modern imagery, reflecting the connection between past and present.

Stained Glass Windows in the Royal Chapel at Conwy Castle.
Although they may appear medieval at first glance, look closely - one window features a mobile phone, and another a bicycle! These striking stained glass windows were commissioned by Cadw and installed in 2012.
Certainly is. I love the shot!

This photo depicts two warplanes, possibly Avro Ansons, flying over High Street in Conwy during the 1940s. The next photo is from @homefrontmuseum.bsky.social book that mentions the event. Fascinating stuff - and I highly recommend their books.

The building boasts the only equestrian Statue in Northern Ireland atop its roof. A 12-foot bronze statue of King William III.
