I am grieving the barbarism that is going to unfurl from all this. People are going to die. Livelihoods gone. All to feed a corrupt kleptocracy.

I see every day up close how different it is from the first time around. There are no guardrails. A disaster. I’m sorry we have to live through this.

All the republicans who believed more in capitalism than human decency are going to see what happens in the next decade when this new bill becomes law. They would rather invest in privatizing America and funding wars than invest in their own people. They’d rather take us back to slavery and murder.

God help us.

Black wealth is another construct that is worth a larger discussion (Fred Hampton.)

But isn’t it reaching to say that the dutchess is just a Black woman who fell in love and couldn’t help that her boo was a prince? Like… that’s a stretch too. The masters tools will never dismantle the masters house.

My family hails from a colony. The idea of princesses, kings and sovereigns hit different in the Caribbean. Black joy does not have to come at the cost of Black pain.

Agreed, but Meghan has not separated herself as a royal. She is not the same as a rich white person, but we cannot normalize systems of power that oppress us. Wealth always comes at a cost to someone else. Yes, I’m skeptical of wealth. Wealth is not joy.

She’s not “just a woman.” She’s part of a British royal family brand and she makes sure to center that fact. The folksy charm of a one pot pasta does not erase those histories of pillage.

And I want to demarcate that I’m not coming for a Black woman. I’m coming for a set of values marketed to viewers of color:
