Map showing the segmentation of the Sagaing fault and the hypothetic historical ruptures

Map showing the segmentation of the Sagaing fault and the hypothetic historical ruptures

Today's #earthquake near Mandalay, Myanmar, had magnitude Mw 7.7 to 7.9.

Prelim. source models point to rupture duration & length of ~120s and at least 200km. It likely filled large part of seismic gap S of Sagaing (previous rupture in 1839) βš’οΈ πŸ§ͺ

I posted earlier that the M7.7 earthquake in Myanmar hits hard personally. I have a professional interest & also have family connections there. For now, I’d like to think about good things, such as the 2018 trip where I was an instructor in a β€œPaleoseismology field camp” we ran near Mandalay. 1/4

Eight types of plate boundaries are illustrated. Each type points to a different place on the world map. The world map shows outlines for the plate boundaries.

I created this map to celebrate different types of plate boundaries.

Prof. Duffy, thanks for your interest in our paper. I think 'Transcurrent Reactivation of Australia's Western Passive Margin: An Example of Intraplate Deformation from the Central Indo-Australian Plate' should be the paper for this cover image.
