The way the start list shakes out I would expect the winner to come from bibs 36-62. That’s where the heavy hitters are

It always feels good to me to see the winner shoot clean in biathlon. I count six athletes who would’ve beaten Botn if they shot clean, but they didn’t. He did, and he’s the champion

Through three shooting stages, Perrot has a 30 second lead over Hiidensalo despite a miss, which means he’s actually skiing 90 seconds faster than him. That shows you how hard it is to win if you don’t ski that fast, even with minute penalties

So far I’m impressed by how fast the French athletes are skiing. Perrot missed a shot on shooting 2 and he’s still leading a bunch of clean shooters

If none of the top athletes go 20/20 it could open the door for a surprise winner or one of those top athletes winning only hitting 19/20. I try not to get too excited about how an athlete is going until they’re at least through the second shooting
