Glaswegian but now an Aotearoan by choice. I like to read. I like football but really only Celtic and Scotland and the All Whites. Hope to see an independent Scotland in my lifetime. Mostly here to read other’s posts. #Scotsabroad

Has the BBC been captured by a bunch of extreme right wingers? Does anyone believe Aunty is pro Palestine? Who will pay Trump's damages - licence-fee payers? What about record low trust levels in Scotland post #indyref? Plus prisons, David Lammy & Trad Awards. Listen lesleyriddoch.com/podcast

The BBC is no longer trusted in Scotland and hasn’t been for at least a decade.

Anybody in this country (🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿) who still bleats about the BBC being a paragon of public service broadcasting is either delusional or must have been unconscious for the last ten years.

QUARTERED SAFE OUT HERE

A recollection of the War in Burma, with a new Epilogue 50 years on

“One of the great personal memoirs of the Second World War”
—John Keegan

The cover image shows a black-and-white head-and-shoulders photograph of a British soldier from the Burma campaign, carrying a piece of equipment over one shoulder. The soldier is wearing a soft, broad-brimmed hat, with the side of the brim closest to us folded upwards. He gazes off to the left, looking intently, holding a lit cigarette between his lips.

30 years ago this hopeless, overgrazed hillside was turned into a thriving woodland. Care & fencing restored desolate Glen Garry despite a sub-Arctic climate & proved forests are possible anywhere. So why is much of Scotland a barren wasteland? New film www.youtube.com/watch?v=MuTV...

The SNP’s independence agenda challenges the political unity of the UK, but not its security or sovereignty in the sense used by intelligence or defense agencies.

Seeking independence via public vote is a legitimate democratic exercise, not subversion.

The SNP fits none of those categories.

Scotland’s land should benefit the people of Scotland.

The Scottish Parliament has just overwhelmingly passed our historic Land Reform Bill - putting more power in the hands of the people, not large landowners.

Quite shocking admission from the BBC in Scotland. Use your own made-up stats, and they won't challenge you. In fact they'll amplify your made-up stats - if you're from the right* party.

*By "right party" I mean not a Scottish party like 𝐓𝐡𝐞 𝐒𝐍𝐏.

You don’t nail down Martin O’Neill by sending him a WhatsApp saying, “Brendan’s walked 2 minutes ago, Ur Ye In?”

An impressive Plaid victory in Caerphilly. A 27% swing from Lab to Plaid. Welsh Labour's dominance crumbling. The limits of Farage & Reform's appeal underlined. Maybe the Westminster commentariat can now stop talking abt the unstoppable momentum behind Farage. Reform are beatable.

The SNP introduced free tuition and we will always ensure Scottish students do not pay tuition fees.

Meanwhile in England, students pay over £9,500 a year and Labour will put fees up every year.

Education must always be based on the ability to learn, not the ability to pay.

Another myth that won't die... that unemployment was too low in 2022 and 2023 and this was key driver of higher wages and inflation. In actual fact, real wage growth was negative throughout that period. What actually happened? [🧵 1/n]

Worth noting that we only see decent job growth for young kiwis when the economy is running hot - that's when employers give less experienced people a chance.
RBNZ respond to hotness by hiking interest rates to slow the economy down. Youth unemployment is a feature of our economic model, not a bug.
