For anyone that did care about the characters and the story, all 11 did was say "Tough shit, we're blowing everyone up and because we're blowing everyone up we're putting zero effort into being consistent with prior games. Don't get attached to anyone because no one is surviving except Liu Kang."

Like. I get story isn't exactly the most important part of a fighting game, but that doesn't mean people don't care about it. And I believe with my whole heart that this lack of respect for the audience paying attention played a part in MK 1's abysmal reception. Not a huge part. But a part.

Erron Black from Mortal Kombat X is my favorite dude of all time. And he's just. An entirely different person in 11. Nothing about him is the same except guns and from Texas. Shao Khan's a meathead idiot now too. Cassie lost her butch swag. Jax is depressed AGAIN. The list just keeps going.

So many characters are just so different they might as well just be different people entirely. Kabal and Sindel? Yeah forget they died protecting Earth. Both were actually evil the whole time. Jade? Completely pure of heart never did anything wrong in her life and she's dating Kotal for some reason.

Trying to sleep and instead of fun fictional scenarios, my brain has chosen to think about whatever the hell was going on with Mortal Kombat 11's story. I've been researching it to help a friend write a story and just. My God. The sheer levels of disregard and disrespect for continuity in that game.
