Why can't anyone stop the fundraisers outside London stations? Inside Success and WeRBlighty have broken the law with their fundraising activities. So why are they are allowed to continue operating outside the capital's busiest railway stations?

Today on London Centric: those blue jacket knife-crime fundraisers (Inside Success) and why no one seems to be able to get rid of them

Hands on Understanding Labour’s industrial strategy

It's hard to make this any more explicit... from a cynical political perspective anyone in government comms should be concerned about the incentive structures that most "local news" sites have, which are increasingly shaped by big tech aggregators that push clicky headlines onto phone screens.

Hi, this is Meg Barnette, Brad's wife.

While escorting a defendant out of immigration court at 26 Federal Plaza, Brad was taken by masked agents and detained by ICE.

This is still developing, and our team is monitoring the situation closely.

Staying water wise during warm, dry spells

Hello Joshua,

As you've probably noticed, we've had lots of warm, dry weather recently. In fact, it's been the driest spring in 69 years. And while our water reserves are at a healthy level right now, continuing dry weather could see those levels drop.

To help make sure we all have enough water over the hotter months, we're asking customers to please be mindful of their water use.

If you can, avoid wasting water and fix leaky loos or dripping taps as soon as you can.
This will help us keep reservoirs topped up and make sure there's enough water to go around during dry spells.

Thames Water leaks half a billion litres of water per day btw.

Reads:

My parents started out with nothing, not a penny from their families. My mum was a dinner lady, Dad was a secondary school teacher.

They paid off their mortgage in their 40s. As children we had a holiday abroad every year and multiple uk holidays throughout the year.

They had a lease car which would be replaced every 3 years with a new one.

They paid for mine and my sisters weddings and house deposits.

They’ve travelled all over the world in their retirement and I’ve just found out they have Β£200k in savings.

WTF?! DH and I have comparable careers, we run 1 old banger of a car, we have 1 uk holiday per year, we’ve stopped at 1 child, we’re on target to pay off our mortgage when we reach retirement, we have a grand total of Β£4k in savings. We don’t drink, don’t smoke, don’t buy expensive clothes.

Really interesting and I think very insightful thread on Mumsnet about just how entirely different the intergenerational financial experience has been:

What makes β€˜Reform-curious’ Labour voters so hard to woo back Downing Street fears Starmer will lose support to Farage but imitating him will alienate other groups it needs on side

The continual litigating of which half of Labour's vote to target is just crazy because it doesn't even have any policy implications! They *all* hate austerity, like the climate stuff, dislike crime and inflation.

This article is one of very many examples of a deeply engrained binary thinking leading people astray - a lot of people simply cannot conceive of politics as anything other than "Us vs One Opponent". That isn't how things are any more, and assuming or asserting it is will just bring more mistakes.

Scientists have been studying remote work for four years and have reached a very clear conclusion: "Working from home makes us happier." An Australian study, conducted over four years and starting before the pandemic, has come up with some enlightening conclusions about the impact of working from home. The researchers are unequivocal: ...

Study begun pre-COVID finds remote work increased sleep by 1/2 hr/night, decreased commute by 4.5 hr/week replaced with work, family & leisure and led to healthier eating. Remote and hybrid employees report higher job satisfaction and well-being. farmingdale-observer.com/2025/05/16/s...
