I'm not convinced that Julie Bindel is best advised when she pushes lesbian triumphalism in the pages of the Daily Mail. Currently they indulge her because of her transphobia but sooner or later that will change.

An EHRC spokesperson said: "We will consider this correspondence from the women and equalities committee (WEC) carefully and provide a full response to the points they raise. "In light of the representations received from the WEC and others, we are actively reviewing our approach to our consultation on the sections of the code of practice being updated following the supreme court's judgment. "We will make a public announcement on the dates the consultation will open and close, and how we plan to engage with affected stakeholders, shortly."

Keep up pressure on your MPs by writing to them, meeting with them and telling them the EHRC have got it wrong.

Since then, there have been no recorded incidents of assault by trans women on women in single space areas in Ireland. If Ireland were to replicate the UK's decision, trans women will be expected to use the male toilets. It's not hard to imagine how a female-presenting trans woman would face increased danger in that situation. For almost no increase in security for women, the trans community would be made to feel even more vulnerable and marginalised.

Perhaps most concerningly, the Supreme Court adopts extremely transphobic rhetoric concerning transfeminine lesbians. The Court concludes that a lesbian “must be a [AFAB] female who is sexually oriented towards (or attracted to) [AFAB] females”. The Court concludes that female here cannot include trans women, as the “concept of sexual orientation” would be “rendered meaningless”, and in its opinion, wrongly affect the composition of lesbians as a group. The Court claims this would lead to an “inevitable loss of autonomy and dignity for lesbians”. It points to evidence from gender-critical groups like the LGB Alliance and The Lesbian Project to make this argument. They claim the inclusion of trans women is having a ‘chilling effect on lesbians’ to associate in lesbian-only spaces. The vast majority of lesbians reject this claim.

I'm 32. When I was a kid and it came out I was bi, there were people saying they weren't comfortable with me using the bathrooms. The bullying that comes with being assumed to be a danger to those around you, people acting as if your an unnatural freak of nature hurts your soul like nothing else.

This has come up a few times in multiple contexts so I want to put it out there:

When we're triggered, we need to check in with ourselves that it's not fragility around having acted harmfully.

Our nervous systems react strongly to this and it can be mistaken for being harmed.

Incidentally and not to claim retroactive Cassandrahood...During the 2010 consultation on the Equality Act, I did suggest to the EHRC people that it was a mistake to restrict discussion of pregnancy to cisvwomen and not specifically include trans men and non-binary people.

And now...

That Supreme Court Bullshit is of course designed to oppress trans women.
It doesn't even acknowledge intersex & non binary folk.
