mitochondria from bipolar patients are closer to the nucleus in these images; control patients' are spread out further

15 years in the making, we confirmed that mitochondria - the powerhouse of the cell - have an unusual localization in patients who experience psychosis (including schizophrenia and bipolar disorders). Youโ€™ll never guess what kind of patient cells we used to make this discoveryโ€ฆ ๐Ÿงต

Being Too Helpful At Work Can Hurt Your Careerโ€”Hereโ€™s How To Say No Women are more likely to take on behind-the-scenes duties at workโ€”extra tasks like onboarding or event planningโ€”and it's hurting their careers. Here's how to say no.

In a study of professors, women got 378 new work requests over 4 weeks vs 118 for men. Women spent more time on service, advising & teaching; men on research. Orgs should track who is taking extra duties & ensure they are rewarded and distributed fairly. www.forbes.com/sites/kimels...

Role of inflammation in depressive and anxiety disorders, affect, and cognition: genetic and non-genetic findings in the lifelines cohort study - Translational Psychiatry Translational Psychiatry - Role of inflammation in depressive and anxiety disorders, affect, and cognition: genetic and non-genetic findings in the lifelines cohort study

Netherlands study of 55,000 adults found higher inflammation (CRP) linked to more negative mood, anxiety, and slower thinking.

Genetic data also suggest CRP and GlycA may play a causal role in negative affect.

Genetic risk was associated with excitatory neurons in the cortex and hippocampus. There was much genetic overlap with anxiety, depression, and anorexia.

Analyses using multiple imputation need to consider missing data in auxiliary variables Abstract. Auxiliary variables are used in multiple imputation (MI) to reduce bias and increase efficiency. These variables may often themselves be incomple

Final version published so time to talk about it: doi.org/10.1093/aje/...

When using multiple imputation to account for missing data we often use auxiliary variables (variables included in the imputation model but not the analysis model) to 1) reduce bias and 2) improve statistical efficiency.
