I hope it's clear to everyone now that Trump really is going for it - he's trying to become a dictator. I don't know if he'll succeed, but he's working to install himself as an autocrat unaccountable to voters. And he's weaponizing the military against Americans who oppose him as part of that effort
30.09.2025 16:59 β π 18420 π 6519 π¬ 785 π 403If any other president in all of history said the military should use American cities as a training ground he would be removed from office that same day. The hardest thing to tolerate in all this is how relatively silent elected democrats are. Itβs ridiculous.

A Twitter post from Trump Admin operative Laura Loomer, reading: "Itβs time to defund American universities. You donβt need to go to college. Charlie Kirk didnβt go to college. @HarmeetKDhillon"
the Nazis attacked higher education as an enemy of the state, first Jewish and "leftist" professors were banned and then the curriculum restructured to only say what the Party wanted. German education was once envy of the world and it was destroyed
In 5 years, college attendance in Germany fell 53%
I spoke with the NYT Magazine a while ago but have now heard that an editor said they can't quote me because I'm "too liberal" to be a trusted source.
You know what's always the first example conservatives use to claim I'm "too liberal"?
My work in the 1619 Project, organized by the NYT Magazine.
Maga is fundamentally a populist white racism. The slogan "Make America Great Again" is more accurately described as "Make White America Greater." The fact that the tariff policy insisted on a 50% tariff only on steel and aluminum stems from the concentration of these groups in the Rust Belt.
The massive crackdown on illegal immigrants at the Hyundai-LG Energy Solutions joint venture plant in Georgia must be understood in this context. The scenes of our workers being chained and escorted away were reminiscent of the dragging of African slaves in the 18th and 19th centuries. The Department of Homeland Security boasted of "the largest single-site raid in history," and Immigration and Customs Enforcement even brazenly released footage of the raid, which was highly violating human rights, as if to boast of their "achievement."
Far-right whites may have secretly rejoiced. Even politicians like the Georgia governor and local lawmakers, who had been active in attracting factories, have shifted their stance and sympathized with their grievances. This is likely because it's difficult to ignore the anti-immigrant sentiment of native Americans. Like the McCarthyism that swept through American society in the 1950s, irrational madness dominates American society. The recent visa issue, which could have been resolved diplomatically with advance notice from an ally, is difficult to explain beyond political maneuvering. The fact that they mobilized helicopters and armored vehicles for show, as if they had been caught, is difficult to explain.

Statement from Kelley Robinson, President of the Human Rights Campaign: "The news out of Alabama is meant to scare us into silence, but we refuse. We stand with all LGBTQ+ Alabamans, trans youth, Lambda Legal, and every attorney who fights for our collective civil rights. We fight with you. And together, we will win." "But what we are seeing in Alabama is not new-a selective, targeted weaponization of judicial power meant to intimidate those demanding equality. We saw it during Jim Crow, and now, it's being used to go after a civil rights lawyer fighting to protect the rights and lives of transgender Alabamans. The aim is clear: by threatening jail time for standard legal practices, the U.S. Attorney's office is trying to stop civil rights lawyers from fighting for justice all together. We refuse to let them get away with it."
UPDATE: Of the indictment unsealed Monday, @hrc.org President Kelley Robinson says that "what we are seeing in Alabama is not new .... We saw it during Jim Crow, and now, it's being used to go after a civil rights lawyer fighting to protect the rights and lives of transgender Alabamans."
