Not sure how it happened that way, but a close friend and I would drive around randomly (with a few regular stops along the river) in their car listening to music a lot during undergrad, and Americana was one of the albums we'd have on repeat.

This was my go-to fun fact for new people when I worked in an HIV lab for 3 years! No one found it as interesting as I did, but then again Americana, which, yes, came out the year I was born and was not at all a recent album when I was in undergrad, was a formative undergrad album for me.

If anyone was wondering, the NC Association of Educators estimates that teachers will spend $1,632 of their own money on their classrooms during the 2025-26 school year. Let's help her get that closer to $0.

And the original letter that did not include “student employees” said, “Our community is founded on the respect and support we each provide to others," and I can't help but laugh at that because I don't see how this order shows "respect" or "support” for anyone!

To me this means that my school is okay with mass censorship to appease the right to the detriment of trans and gender non-conforming students, faculty, and staff. Including pronouns is the bare minimum to signal potential support and acknowledgement, and you’re not allowed to do that anymore.

Obviously pronouns are a “little thing,” but to me it’s about what that represents, keeping in mind that the right uses “pronouns” as a synonym for “transgender people existing.”

As a transgender graduate student, everything feels stupid rn. My school is currently ordering people to remove pronouns from email signatures, Zoom display names, etc. by July 31st or you’ll have to see HR to comply with a state regulation that’s been passed.

“Economy passengers don’t get to have their bags on the plane because everyone in front had huge bags that filled the overhead bins” isn't acceptable when economy passengers' bags contain things like medications and batteries that can't go into the cargo hold!

Also, some of us have essential medications and need to bring them either in our personal item bag or carry-on bag because they can't go in the cargo hold due to risk of being lost. If my medications get lost, I'm in a lot of trouble and I can't depend on my insurance company to actually help me!
