Ruan's hairband was gifted to him by his sister when he left home, in exchange for thr promise to return...

And return he did, tho it took him nearly ten years, and due to his memory loss he did not recall how he got it, but he always had a feeling it meant much to him...

Ruan loves to paint and draw, always has, no idea tho where he got it from. He didn't have anybody in his life who shared his love of art with him when he was younger.
I loved the draw as a kid, but I lack the patience to actually learn it.

For his mother I'm not sure, he still loved her, but he learned her love wasn't unconditional.
When he returns later as the WoL his father is long gone and while he does still care about his mother, it is not the love he once held, knowing she would change him in a heartbeat if she could.

When he was a child Ruan genuinly loved his parents and he had a happy childhood... it was only in his teens, when their son did not develop in the way they wanted him too, that things turned sour.
He respected them, tho in his father's case there was also a fat helping of fear involved.

Mostly an AU thing but since it's come up again recently:
Cooking.
Ruan is a horrendous cook, like "he will burn down the kitchen making cereal" levels of bad.
He's so proud the first time he makes a fried egg that doesn't turn into charcoal.

Ruan is my gentle giant. Despite all he went through he didn't let it turn him bitter. He's still soft and kind.

Ruan is 100% a botanist, that's not even up for discussion.
The years he has spent living and working on a farm have stuck with him and he's discovered his love for plants.

Best gifts I can think of quite a few. Anything related to art, food bc he can't cook to save his life. Maybe produce tho he can just as well grow it himself.

Worst is anything alcohol based.
