he was extremely lucky to have survived, but as a result of him dying, he can no longer hear Esteem's voice (it's still unclear if Esteem is fully gone or if he's simply gone dormant) and has to deal with chronic pain, not to mention his lifespan is significantly shortened

aeris died fighting zenos in ultima thule, but half of his soul remained tethered to his body due to effects of dynamis, which allowed keres to resuscitate him and just barely keep him alive until he could receive proper medical care. if dynamis had not been present, he wouldn't have come back
