This all also creates political durability and makes it harder to pick and choose things based on nimbyism or political pressure.
On Spadina we could save 5 minutes on the route - which is only 25 minutes! Imagine the impact across the whole network!

The King Street Pilot had a massive positive impact on ridership, and everyone in the city knew about it! Doing a single light, or stop removal is not going to get peoples attention and get them excited.

This should all be done as a *comprehensive plan*.
This maximizes benefits and creates great synergies that drive support for the program! A named program builds public awareness.

It's also suggested we use temporary track sections as in other parts of the world to limit shutdowns and constant diversions.

Stop consolidation is critical, but needs to happen broadly and all at once, so costs aren't born by a small local group, and *everyone* benefits massively from speedups!

Dual blades are the global standard and have been for 70 years! We repeat, these are ALREADY in use on Eglinton, Finch and at the Leslie barns!

The streetcars are going so slow in part because of antiquated technology Toronto still uses. Modern switch control would fix many intersection slow downs. Dual blade switches would bring the network in line with the light rail lines and even some streetcar yards.

Speed limits imposed on the network in all kinds of places limit the competitiveness of transit. TTC drivers are the safest on the road, and getting more people on transit would make everyone safer. We are systematically driving people out of transit by making it the slowest option on the streets.

Left turn phases allow a tiny number of cars to pass through at once. Straight through phases allow pedestrians and cyclists, transit, and cars to all go through at once!

Pedestrian islands and multistage crossings are critical for more dynamic traffic light timings. Eliminating left turns - even just selectively - would boost transit with a small cost to drivers, who themselves would benefit from less congestion!

The declining speed of the streetcar network has massively reduced ridership as Toronto has grown significantly. Jonathan speaks as to how this is driving people into cars, and massively increasing congestion, leaving a key asset to the city underused.

Now, Contributor @englishrail.bsky.social is showing our surface transit revitalization plan. A low cost project that would transform Toronto for the better, by saving tons of time, and making the streetcars, light rail and even buses better in Toronto.

Narayan Donaldson mentions we could save several minutes on the Spadina Streetcar alone with proper signal priority. A huge percentage improvement.

Contributor Narayan Donaldson is about to speak to the TTC board on supercharging transit signal priority in Toronto, with lessons from the rest of the world!

As Toronto grows and becomes more congested fast transit is more important than ever to get people out of cars! Yet we've seen major slow downs not only of the streetcars, but also the subway. As well as opened new lines that are slower than anyone expected. This needs to be addressed!
