The CIA just stopped publishing their World Factbook and took every page, including the archived copies of previous versions!

I take your point, but I expect that *he* expects that never to get off the ground even if the Democrats take power. His money's safe, but he fears getting on the wrong side of what he considers a potentially existential threat - and it ain't Chuck Schumer.

Why then ransack the newsroom? It's not like he doesn't have the money to keep and even expand it.

And he already showed allegiance to Trump with the "free markets" jive. But the moment, he has clearly decided, requires he go further and fulfill the right's dream of vengeance against the paper.

He bought it as a political asset.

When a heedless wrecker of liberal institutions took office, and resistance rose, he played to the latter with "democracy dies in darkness." Good bet, as 2020 showed.

When Trump returned, he calculated the other way.

Respectfully, maybe getting in good with Trump is not destructive if you're a device manufacturer, but if credibility is your product it can only be destructive.

And the massive exodus of subscribers shows that people *do* notice.
