Hi all, Walter Murch's online talk at The School Of Sound is in two hours.

Absolutely….though in effect as it is a deep humming, it’s not painful. Still mandatory ear protection.
I don’t go much to amplified concerts as I dislike the loudness and distorted PA sound. 130db of a singer with drums, no ! 130 db of single chord on a baritone guitar, oh yes !!

If you have the chance you should try to experience it. That you like the music or not, try it. This is for reaching spheres of perception that go well beyond the musician’s looks, personas and musical heritage. Pure timbre passed onto you as touch.

Spent an hour at the far end of the audible world, waving, rattling, humming in sympathy with molecules: Sunn O))) yesterday in Brussels.

Yes ! I spent hours sitting on the beach 30 meters from the shore getting hypnotized by these meters.

Fascinating how moving a couple of meters up or down the waves changes everything.

Oh lucky you, he was in Amsterdam yesterday!?!
Isn’t it his daughter or some other relatives living in NL? I wish I could have attended!
(I would love to show him that lexicon I’m working on)

I know the average person doesn't use or care about VR. But I believe the advent of spatial computing is the most substantial development in artistic expression since the arrival of motion pictures - and, before then, since the invention of perspective in paintings.

Good to read the sensation is shared...! Then I'll continue "floating" through it and for sure its stories should reveal themselves a bit more through each listen !

So i'm finally playing through the VR Medal of Honor, and while fun, some of the dialogue scenes seem to draaaag. Unlike a cut scene, I am "physically" stuck into the ground having to hear ppl talk. BUT, in Half Life Alyx, the Vortigaunt monologues are a delight... 🧡

Star Wars: Knights of the old Republic Ambient Music - Taris Upper City
YouTube video by H0wlrunn3r Star Wars: Knights of the old Republic Ambient Music - Taris Upper City

In videogames the combination of all elements is what creates the right vibe.

Which is why I love seeing 'ambient' tracks of videogames on YouTube: www.youtube.com/watch?v=PyqV...

It isn't just the music. It's the crowd noises, it's the footsteps of NPCs, it is the *entirety* that creates the vibe

Sad news for the audio community.

Requiescat David Lynch. Along with Steve Albini, we've lost two of the brightest sonic sorcerers in less than a year.
A pair that was tuned to the senses like few other mortals.
