Okay! I do agree having to rewrite billboard is annoying, but FYI base material has an option to convert to shader, so you can make a base material, enable particle billboard, convert to Tex and steal the code

Honestly it still requires some technique so it's pretty fun to execute nonetheless! And the gatcha with shop options is fun too!

Just played the game for good 45 minute and had a great time!

I got to the point that my graph-ship is a little too big and i can't find the newly purchased nodes haha

If i may add nuance to this: learning and getting inspired from the "source" of all is always a good exercise. For us as VFX artists, if we only learn on other people's VFX, we miss out on a great opportunity to truly make something our own and add our own flavor to it.

There was no specific explicit work (yet!) to expose it to compositor. I am not sure whether it's technically possible to grab the depth+stencil texture and extract stencil from a compositor pass. But that's definitely something on the radar

#GodotEngine tip of the day: if you're trying to make a perfectly looping particle, don't forget to set fixed fps to 0 and interpolate to false.
