This is an insane Bufonidae genus, with lots of amazing species but mostly Endangered. My bsky @ is an homage to them

A sad tale in herpethology are species know only from the holotypes and paratypes, with some been declared extinct and never recorded again. This little guy is an example of it, considered Endangered, is know from only one specimen in Madagasgar. 🐸🧪

I really do not appreciate sitting frogs in pictures. They always seem to be in pain and anatomically it make sense! Like, they are sitting on their vertebrae, not treir pelvis

(e vice versa)

Oh this is a nice one! "A. barbouri was called the stream form of A. texanum (Petranka 1982). This is in reference to their habitat, where A. texanum inhabits pond areas and A. barbouri inhabits stream areas." Nice example of if there is one species, there can be two (but Vice-Versa is also true...)

Endemic species from "rupestrian grassland" in the Chapada Diamantina 🇧🇷. L. oreomantis conservation status is classified by SALVE as LC. Smal and slender, has a distinct call (I could not find the original audio), and is diagnosed by e pairs of dorsolateral folds. 🐸
