The reason I find Lazarus comforting despite me avoiding dystopian genre, is probably because of the jazzy score

Telling your kids that you're staying in an unhappy or even worse abusive relationship because of them just let's them grow up with a lot of unnecessary guilt. That excuse is blaming innocent ppl.

(1/3) Your fun history lesson on racism: The joke about Black people with their fried chicken and watermelon is shittier then your history classes likely taught you. Both fried chicken and watermelon were initially economic vehicles for prosperity among Black entrepreneurs.

I want a Gangster prequel.
I want a Choctaw-led Vampire Hunter action film spinoff.
I want a Lisa Chow revenge film.
I want a Stack/Mary "New Jack City" style 90's vampire crime drama.

I don't *need* any of these films. But holy shit, do I wanna continue visiting this world.

This image has pink and orange background. The white text reads: 2025 Historical Lesbian Figures - Leslie Feinberg (1949-2014). Leslie Feinberg, who identified as an working-class, secular Jewish, transgender, lesbian, female, revolutionary communist, died on November 15, 2014.

Feinberg was the first theorist to advance a Marxist concept of β€œtransgender liberation,” and hir work impacted popular culture, academic research, and political organising.

Hir impact on mass culture was primarily through hir 1993 first novel, Stone Butch Blues, widely considered in and outside the U.S. as a groundbreaking work about the complexities of gender.

In a statement at the end of hir life, Leslie said zie/she had β€œnever been in search of a common umbrella identity, or even an umbrella term, that brings together people of oppressed sexes, gender expressions, and sexualities” and added that she/zie believed in the right of self-determination for oppressed individuals, communities, groups, and nations.

There are images of hands holding the lesbian and trans flag as well as a photo of a person smiling within a gold frame.

This image has pink and orange background. The white text reads: 2025 Lesbian Historical Figures - Lili Elbe (1882-1931).

Born in Vejle, Denmark, in 1882, Lili was a talented landscape painter who would later become one of the first known people to undergo gender-affirming surgery in 1930.

Lili lived for many years expressing her identity in private. As early as 1912, she would sometimes attend social events with her wife, Gerda, an artist and loving partner, dressed in gowns and makeup. With Gerda’ support, Lili began to fully understand and embrace her true self.

Lili spent years seeking medical advice, often being misunderstood or dismissed by doctors. Eventually, she met Dr. Magnus Hirschfeld, a pioneering German physician and advocate for LGBTQ+ rights.

Lili passed away in 1931, however her courage continues to inspire. Today, the LGBTQ+ film festival MIX Copenhagen honors her legacy with the Lili Awards, celebrating stories that champion diversity and authenticity.

This image has pink and orange background. The white text reads: 2025 Lesbian Historical Figures - StormΓ© DeLarverie (1920-2014).

StormΓ© DeLarverie was a trailblazing American entertainer and LGBTQ+ rights activist, best known for her role in sparking the Stonewall uprising. Witnesses say that her scuffle with police helped ignite the crowd into action during the riots.

Born in New Orleans to an African American mother and a white father, StormΓ© lived a bold, barrier-breaking life. She performed as a singer and emcee at legendary venues, and worked as a bouncer, bodyguard, and volunteer street patrolβ€”earning the title "guardian of lesbians in the Village."

While StormΓ© never publicly claimed a specific gender identity, she chose to live authentically and defied labels. When asked how she identified, she simply said: "Just me." On pronouns, she responded, "Whatever makes YOU feel most comfortable." Her friend Lisa Cannistraci later described her as non-binary.

There is a graphic of a hand holding the non-binary flag and an image of a person smiling while looking off camera within a gold frame.

We chose Audre Lorde, Gladys Bentley, Leslie Feinberg, Lili Elbe, and StormΓ© DeLarverie because each of them stood at the intersection of courage, creativity and activism, embodying the power of visibility in the face of adversity.
