A week ago, a tragic school shooting shook Minnesota. Most Americans want stronger gun laws, but barriers in our democracy keep blocking action.

We deserve a system where our voices—not special interests—protect our freedom to live and learn in safety.

This Labor Day, we honor the workers who make our democracy and our communities strong.

From the right to organize to the freedom to vote, when working people have a voice, we all move forward together.

Who runs our elections? We do. States and local officials—our neighbors—decide when, where, and how we vote.

Congress can step in at times, but our system was built so that communities play the central role in protecting democracy.

Sending the guard to DC isn’t about keeping people safe; it’s about projecting power and intimidating dissent.

These fights for fair maps set national precedents, and Americans across the nation are with Texans, pushing back against MAGA extremists’ attempts to rig the rules.

At the same time, we’re seeing troubling scenes in Washington, D.C., with the militarization of public spaces. National Guard troops, armored vehicles, and heightened security measures are transforming the heart of our democracy into something unrecognizable.

Texas legislators who left the state to stop gerrymandered maps are being forced to sign an order requiring a police escort whenever they leave the State House.

Rep. Nicole Collier’s refused to sign this order, standing up for our democracy and against intimidation.

These new maps in Texas aren’t about fair representation; they’re about holding onto power by undermining our freedom to decide who governs in our name.

The maps are not the will of voters—it’s the decisions of greedy politicians and MAGA extremists to hold on to power by any means.

This week, some of the Texas legislators who fled the state to stop the passage of the gerrymandered maps returned. While this move may mean that the new maps will pass, their message remains clear: What happens in Texas doesn’t stay in Texas.

MAGA extremists will keep trying to silence voices and weaken our democracy so they can cling to power.

But together, we’ll defend our rights, stop illegal overreach, and build a multiracial democracy where every vote counts and every vote matters.

In Minnesota, we know better. We fought for safe, easy, and secure elections because every voter, no matter who you are, where you come from, or what you believe, deserves the freedom to choose our leaders.

That’s how we build a government that works for all of us.

MAGA extremists’ attack on mail-in voting and voting machines are outright lies.

They amplify conspiracy theories to sow distrust in our democracy to divide us against one another.

Mail-in ballots make democracy work for all of us.

They ensure seniors can cast ballots safely.
They help parents juggling jobs and childcare.
They give rural communities & soldiers abroad a voice.
They make sure that rural and city folks alike aren’t left out.

The Constitution gives states, not the President, control over how elections are run.

Our elections are intentionally decentralized. Local officials, our neighbors and friends, run them safely, securely, and transparently. No President can change that.

Let’s be clear: this isn’t about honesty or integrity, it’s about silencing voters and illegally grabbing power ahead of the 2026 midterms. 🧵
