Just A Day Away. On the face of it, these two butterfly shaped picture discs appear the same, but one is an incorrect pressing. Surprisingly, the most often version to come across is the defective one.

Les Holroyd. Leicester de Montfort Hall, October 3rd 1975.

I remember first hearing Echoes being played on Radio Caroline and thought, yea I must buy this, but at the end of track I misheard what the DJ said about what he'd just played and what was up next. I ended up buying an album by Earth and Fire which was far from my expectations.

I've seen several different titles come up on eBay. They have all gone for silly prices.

It's a huge piece of their history, and someone obviously thought it was worth it. Despite the questionable quality, I'd love to hear these Ardmore and Beechwood recordings remastered and released, but surviving band members are firmly against it.

One I didn't bid on.

Thirteen years ago today, Woolly Wolstenholme left us. He wrote to John Lees that he was simply 'On Leave' which JLBJH made into a song on North. Photo credit Polydor records.

That juke box copy is super interesting as it's not one I've got and I haven't seen listed in their discography. Presumably because it was made specifically for juke boxes, especially with Hymn on the B side. 🦋 Cheers for sharing.

Life Is For Living. If commercial success is to be judged by chart position, this was the band's biggest. It reached no.1 in Switzerland and no.2 in Germany. The tide had definitely turned by now. The Harvest years put well behind.

BJH Record of the Day. This was a bizarre release. A single played at 33 and a bit, rather than at 45, and Medicine Man split in two so you had to turn the record over part way through, complete with fades out and in. Love this version of Medicine Man though.

A New Day Festival August 2017. BJH fans will have no trouble guessing the song. I always felt nervous for John playing this segment as recorders are a bitch to play!
