Exciting to see that intact marcofaunal communities have been successfully extracted from an #offshorewindfarm! Looking forward to following the new developments of this EcoWind project.

I was invited to present and describe how #functionaltraits can be used to document changes in #ecosystemfunction in response to disturbance. We need to β€˜turn existing data into insight’ and β€˜move beyond species’ to inform marine spatial planning with a focus on safeguarding ecosystem services. 🌏πŸ§ͺπŸ¦‘

Reflecting on my own functional work it is clear traits like longevity, morphology and mobility can help us predict how species react to disturbance and describe how, if at all, repopulation can occur. #FunctionalEcology can be used as a tool to explore the trajectory of disturbed ecosystems. πŸ§ͺπŸ¦‘πŸŒŽ

Long-term impact and biological recovery in a deep-sea mining track - Nature Nature - Long-term impact and biological recovery in a deep-sea mining track

Fascinating new study displays how long it takes for deep-sea species to re-establish an area of disturbance highlighting the decade long effects of deep-sea mining. However, certain more mobile species can repopulate the area at a faster rate. πŸ§ͺπŸŒŽπŸ¦‘

Hi Eryn, I would like to be added to the science feed. I am a Marine Ecologist currently studying the effects of offshore windfarms on benthic ecosystems using a functional trait approach. I have also focused on studying deep sea ecosystems. My project: www.plymouth.ac.uk/student-life...

Had a great time meeting with my fellow CDTSuMMeR PhD cohort and seeing how our projects have progressed. It was exciting to hear how more colleagues can now see how functional trait analysis could be used in their own work. How do you think you could use a functional trait approach in your work? πŸ§ͺπŸ¦‘

Great new #functionaltrait work highlighting the need to describe functions beyond the group level. Species can have very specific functions that are crucial to shaping the environment around them and understanding this relationship is key to protecting ecosystems moving forward. #MarineEcology πŸ¦‘πŸ§ͺ

I have been lucky to work in various scientific fields before embarking on my PhD.

Worked as a benthic ecologist, identifying #deepsea creatures using imagery analysis.

Led projects using #communityscience to identify the distributions of endangered bats in my home of Ontario, Canada. πŸ¦‡

Hello! My name is Bridget and I am a CDT SuMMeR PhD researcher based at @sosbangor.bsky.social. My project aims to use trait-based approaches to inform habitat mapping of ecosystem function, process and services in benthic communities. Looking forward to connecting with new groups on this platform!
