We had only recently passed 350 ppm when I started my PhD in Earth System Science, already a value understood to be dangerous and a threat to society.

And now, 33 years and 30 COPs later, we are at a value that is unprecedented for the past 3 million years and maybe even the past 8 million years.

Yes, All Those Author Services and Book Club Emails Are Fake, and No, Don’t Send Them Any Money If you’re an author, or honestly if you just happen to be standing near an author these days, then you have probably seen a flood of emails in the past couple of months promising you that who…

Over on Whatever today I confirm that, indeed, all those emails authors and other writers are getting promising access to readers and book clubs and such are 100% scams, share all the scam emails I got just this morning, and note why they are all awful and bad:

I did, absolutely. They were a few months apart so I could concentrate on that one, but also was doing final edits for the other at the same time! They both helped with publicity and marketing, while I joined socials, improved my website and did some interviews! An unusual year!

Two books were published in 2025 by two different independent publishers! Aerth came out in January, with @weatherglassbooks.bsky.social; The Wilder Path with @aurorametro.bsky.social in June. So very exciting. I've been writing for a long time and these are my first major publications.

These ads are poisoning trust in media ‘Native advertising' allows fossil fuel companies to disguise their ads in news outlets. A new book argues the practice undermines journalistic credibility.

An important new book from @commscholar.bsky.social looks at native advertising, a practice allowing fossil fuel companies to disguise their ads as journalism in mainstream outlets.

It adds a hugely overlooked piece to the convo about corporate influence in media www.exxonknews.org/p/these-ads-...

There’s another wave of author impersonators offering consultations/mentoring for a price. (I got one from “Claire Keegan” telling me I’m very promising!) I’m sure you are great, but I didn’t email to tell you how swell you are. Here’s info on book scams: www.penguinrandomhouse.com/prh-fraud/

AI has scraped my second book and produced this shitty comic. Firstly, the winds are in all the wrong places. Secondly, what the hell is happening in that second panel? Thirdly, this is plagiarism and totally unlicensed. Have any other authors had this done 'for free' to their books?

I saw this in the Prado Museum about 17 years ago with my 7-year-old - I tried to get him interested but he was more keen on the idea of an ice cream! But I have never forgotten it. (I think we managed about 3 minutes!)

Aerth by Deborah Tomkins

Aerth by Deborah Tomkins

A very special novella by @tomkinsdeb.bsky.social Beautiful, resonant and profound.

Magnus becomes an astronaut to travel between 2 uncannily familiar planets - Aerth and Urth.

With themes of belonging, migration and climate disaster, perfect for fans of Ursula LeGuin and Samantha Harvey
