As a 90s kid, I grew up with the edgy belts and pouches era of comic books. In hindsight, the Rob Liefeld era wasn't a great one but it gave me my everlasting love of the X-Men and it still has its charms in an 'aw, they're trying' sort of way.

I think it was Gene Wilder or Mel Brooks (maybe both?) that basically took the less is more approach when it came to swearing in comedy or to amplify a word like you said?

That said, I was definitely more swear happy in my teens and twenties myself. So maybe that's the crowd these writers want?
