Cerebral Blood Flow and Cognition in CKD: A Physiological Paradox
Dementia is common in individuals with CKD. However, mechanisms underlying cognitive impairment in CKD differ from those in aging and AD. Our perspective in JASN highlights some of these differences, especially, the differences in cerebral blood flow. pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/40493415/

Why Is the American Diet So Deadly?
A scientist tried to discredit the theory that ultra-processed foods are killing us. Instead, he overturned his own understanding of obesity.
"Calorie density, probably the feature of food that had the biggest impact on our ancestorsโ survival, now seemed to be among the most responsible for making us overeat." Fascinating piece by @dhruvkhullar.bsky.social. www.newyorker.com/magazine/202...

Agree. Cooled dialysate may not be the solution. In fact prior studies showing lower FA with cooler dialysate are worrisome- lower FA is not exactly a โgoodโ sign. Lower FA is associated with dementia!

So true. We have to remind people what it was like before we had vaccines. Itโs easy to forget if you havenโt witnessed this yourself.

Many important tasks in nephrology are not RVU generating. Dialysis is. We gave up our other revenue generating tasks to IR and ICU. The problem may not with nephrology but with running health care as a for profit/ business where nephrologists are not appropriately compensated.

A notable aspect of private health insurance is the absence of any reason for it to exist. It does not contain costs, expand coverage, or expedite care โ it makes those all worse. Its sole function is to profit as a rent-seeking middleman between patients and providers.
I will post this forever...
