If you haven’t read it already you might also be interested in this blogpost (when I used to blog 😂). In it, I wrote about the potential pitfalls of students relying on conjunctions instead of verbs, nouns and prepositional phrases.

I've spent years encouraging students to use causal verbs alongside conjunctions. But this can lead to confused language/mixed metaphors.

Inspired by @jcarrollhistory.bsky.social, I'm planning to explicitly integrate metaphors into KS5 using targeted vocab

When I became a history teacher, I remember reading from my HoDs huge collection of Teaching History. It feels surreal to now have contributed myself! My article is about teaching local, decolonial history. Wonderful experience, enhanced greatly by Katharine Burn's editorial insights. Happy Easter.

I'm sure we've all had pupils ask us 'What's the point?' My article in TH198 starts from this question and reflects on how as well as teaching/assessing mastery of historical knowledge, it's important (and fun) to engage in the messier realm of what meanings pupils have made of it. I had a go ...
