As for bands not getting visas to enter, seems the current administration shadow implemented a yearly limit to Artist visas so everyone who applied after a certain point has been denied.

I keep forgetting Blind Guardian is coming in November and playing all of Somewhere Far Beyond. That’s going to be insane and I’ll be hoarse from singing along to the whole thing.

Further I saw this in Bergen last year with guests that probably won’t play any other shows just given how much talent was there that week. It was one of the most profound and spiritual metal concerts I’ve ever experienced. Any fan of Bathory’s music is in for a life affirming treat.

The bigger point is that far more people are. going to have strong emotional responses to those Bathory songs played by in their own right legendary musicians who worship those Bathory songs. That’s why they’re headlining just as they have a bunch of euro fests.

Given that in no point in history has anyone ever gotten to see Bathory in person (save those supposed three shows in 84) I don’t think it much matters if it’s a tribute.

Except Bathory is a far more important band.

If you don’t understand what people mean when they say art/music can be cathartic, especially if you’re insisting on its messaging (propaganda), here’s a way to understand it.

Their drummer has been a Trumper forever and I think some smaller level wrongs noted by 1 or 2 other members, so I saw someone on here pleading that essentially to be a good leftist you need to abandon SOAD. I’m just like, “good luck with that campaign. I’m not about to bet money on your chances.”

The reality is I guess especially in such a siloed forum as this that it’s just cope and a wounded call for sympathy amongst a very narrow subset of people. Outside of that group though it just looks terribly pathetic and weak posturing as anything but.

It’s funny seeing someone demand a moral necessity that say others need to abandon their fandom of System of a Down. Like I don’t quite get where they think this is all actually going to lead to.

Fine and fair enough but I do want to point out this was Friedemann’s thread and I was engaging in something they said, not something you said.

Because it seems like by locating that strand you allow that to be an end point. No positive alternative branches or congruent thoughts matter. That may not have been your intent but that’s how it reads in the absence of not elaborating and even more by that being the first and only thing you noted.

Your first response was essentially dismissive given you labeled my thematic framing as reinforcing every negative ideology discussed in modern times. So if mine was condescending it was in reaction to an insulting dismissive from yourself.

And in terms of Philosophy you wouldn’t generally have the existentialists nor the post-modernists without Nietzsche.
