Gloating doesn’t behoove them. It’s not the other festival’s fault. Any more than it was Harvest’s fault that Jason Isbill bailed out at the last minute.

This is a poorly done hit piece. All kinds of problems. Using the figures from the story, SJ has 50% more green space than Fredericton, 12% more than Moncton and more per capita than either.

Unfortunately, the author is the host of Information Morning on CBC. Previous hosts haven’t done hit pieces on the city like this one.

A really shoddy hit piece. Implying that you actually have to run across a major highway to reach Rockwood Park from the south end.

It also fails to address the amount of parkland per capita. SJ does also well by that measure.

And in other places, people have questioned where the 3.8% comes from. For example, it seems to exclude the entirety of Harbour Passage.

Simple math says that SJ has approx. 12 sq. Km of parkland while Fredericton has approx. 8 sq. km.
Where I come from, 12 is 50% more than 8.
SJ’s green space is also the greatest on a per capita basis.
So in my view, a superficial, poorly done hit piece.

According to the story, Saint John has only 3.8% parkland within its city limits. In comparison, Moncton has 7.6% parkland, and Fredericton has 6%.
However Saint John’s total area is 316 sq. Km. While Fredericton is 134 sq. Km and Moncton is 141.

It’s hardly a great report. It’s fundamentally flawed and fails to recognize that SJ has approx 50% more parkland than Fredericton and more than 12% greater than Moncton. And you don’t have to cross a major highway to reach Rockwood Park. A poorly done hit piece.
