Given the literal definition of deportation is removing a foreigner or noncitizen from the country, we - journalists, media orgs - should probably all stop referring to the ‘deportation’ of a 2 year old US citizen. It’s NOT a deportation.

Chicago is set to exhaust the money budgeted for 2025 to pay settlements with citizens over CPD abuse, by the end of April. Millions of dollars paid to victims every year because of violent acts of torture, death, and false confessions. And they’ve run out already.

I just don’t think it’s appropriate to insist that younger generations need get out to protest, when we were the ones who broke it in the first place. We need to get out there and show them that we’re committed to doing something. Then hope they trust us enough to join us.

I’m 50+. Here’s the thing: my generation and those older are the ones who have fucked this all this fucked this all up. We need to be the ones out there in front, leading this opposition. I’ve no objection to younger generations being there, but, well, we broke it, we need to fix it.
