Writers are always told that their first ten pages have to be the strongest and really need to grab a readers attention. A flash forward is by far the easiest way to do it. Pilots specs had it A LOT at one point.

In media res just means “the story has already started” and you’re joining right in the thick of events. Star Wars is a famous example.

A flash forward starts with a major scene from later in the story and then jumps back and shows you how the characters got there. It’s a bit played out though.

One side effect of the AI art apocalypse is I’ve been drawing for fun again. The pressure is off now, right? You don’t have to be the greatest artist in the world, you just have to be you. The struggle is fun. The mistakes are all mine. I’m having a blast.
